God Whispered in the Wind
When I was a freshman in high school, I had started to go to Young Life with some of my friends. My father was Jewish and my mother Methodist. They had decided to expose me to both religions, and then let me make my own decision about my faith, supporting us in whatever decision I made. I went to a Young Life Fall Weekend trip to some cabins in the woods. We played games, and had tons of fun, but they also had messages that they presented every night.
On the last night, we were sent out individually to take some quiet time to reflect on the messages we had heard over the weekend. I knew the 'basics' about God and Jesus, but what they had shared that night about His love for me, and the gift of His son, really struck me. I was out lying on the ground under a big tree, a cool, clam night in a beautiful wooded area. As I was trying to take it all in, I whispered, 'Do you really love me THAT much?'
At that point, the wind blew through the trees, and the leaves rustled. I truly felt as if the Lord was speaking to me in that moment, as the wind blew over me, whispering back, 'Yes, I do.' It was a powerful moment, and from then, I started a journey to truly learning more, reading more, and growing in my faith. I hope as I raise my 4 children, they will come to know Christ as I have - that's my continual prayer!
